//Ex-PM seized by Thai court//Author: GRANT PECK
BANGKOK

Thaland's highest court ruled Friday that ousted leader Thaksin Shinawatra abused his power to enrich himself and his family while in office and ordered that $1.4 billion of his telecommunications fortune be seized. The ruling likely disappoints, if not angers, Thaksin's millions of partisans, boding ill for mending the rifts in Thai society after four years of political unrest centered around him. However, some analysts suggested the court's decision not to seize all 76 billion baht ($2.3 billion) at stake was a compromise that could foster reconciliation.

Taliban leader escapes a US missile
Author: MUNIR AHMAD and ROHAN SULLIVAN
ISLAMABAD
CIA missiles struck the most feared Afghan Taliban faction, narrowly missing its commander and killing his brother in the latest blow. The attack against the Haqqani group, which has close ties to al-Qaida, followed the arrest of the Afghan insurgency's and the assault on the Taliban's southern heartland in Afghanistan — all providing an early boost to the Obama administration's bid to reverse the tide of war.

In my opinion, I think they need to get a better shot, because his brother could have been innocent, and then he would have died for nothing. I also think that the author might agree with me too.

Canadian School Ship Sinks
Author: BRADLEY BROOKS
RIO DE JANEIRO

A Canadian sailing ship filled with high school and college students sank off the coast of Brazil in strong winds, but people said all 64 people aboard were rescued Friday after about 16 hours in rafts tossed by rough seas. A distress signal was picked up from the three-masted SV Concordia about 5 p.m. Thursday, Brazil's Navy said in a statement and an Air Force plane later spotted life rafts floating in the ocean about 300 miles off the coast of Rio de Janeiro. And they were rescued!

In my opinion, I am glad that they were rescued, because this was a great save! And I'm glad that they saved them. And I would think that the author would agree with me that they saved the kids!

Bomb kills 3 US military men in Pakistan
Author: SHERIN ZADA and MUNIR AHMAD
SHAHI KOTO, Pakistan

A roadside bomb killed three U.S. soldiers and partly destroyed a girls' school in northwest Pakistan on Wednesday. It was an attack that drew attention to a little public American military training mission in al-Qaida and Taliban. They were the first known U.S. military fatalities in Pakistan's lawless tribal regions near the Afghan border and a major victory for militants who have been hit hard by a surge of U.S. missile strikes and a major Pakistani army offensive. The blast also killed three school girls and a Pakistani soldier who was traveling with the Americans. Two more U.S. soldiers were wounded, along with more than 70 other people, mostly students at the school, people said.

In my opinion, I think that this is wrong and that they should really take their war else where. Not near a school or innocent people; and I think that the author would thinkt the same thing.

Iraqi bomber dressed as a policeman goes to police post
Author: Associated Press
BAGDHAD

A Iraqi bomber dress as a police man wounded one American soldier and three other Iraqi policeman. A military person said that the bomber was trying to enter a city called Zumar, which was when he was spotted by the police. He said that he fired his gun at the bomber just before he detonated his explosive belt. The attack came just after a couple of hours when the Bagdad hotels were also being bombed. So there is a rise of suicide bombers.

In my opinion, I think that this is very wrong and that the suicide bombers have no reason to do this. I also think that the author would agree with me on this also, because the suicide bombers are killing innocent people.
